I help communities, organizations, and individuals prepare for and respond to disasters with animals at the center of the plan.

My work bridges emergency management, animal care systems, and nature-based resilience to close critical gaps in how we protect and evacuate animals during crisis—and how we support healing after loss.

Based in lived experience, emergency operations training, and a decade of service dog work, I design systems that hold both practicality and care.

Learn more about my work and how it began below.

I am an Animal Disaster Readiness Consultant and emergency management professional specializing in integrating animals into disaster planning, response, and recovery systems. I work with communities, organizations, and shelters to develop practical, animal-inclusive strategies for evacuation, emergency operations, and resilience building. With a background in service dog training and formal emergency management education, I bring both hands-on animal experience and systems-level planning expertise. My work is grounded in the belief that effective disaster preparedness must account for the full human–animal relationship, not as an afterthought, but as a core part of community safety.

My passion for animal disaster preparedness comes from a lifetime of working alongside animals and witnessing the profound bond they share with the people who love them. With over a decade of experience in animal care and service dog training, I have seen firsthand how animals provide connection, purpose, and a sense of home. That bond also shapes how people respond during emergencies—many will risk everything rather than leave an animal behind.

My perspective deepened through my work in disaster recovery following the Marshall Fire, where I witnessed the lasting impacts disasters have on both people and animals. The experience revealed a critical gap in emergency management: while animals are often at the center of evacuation decisions, they are frequently overlooked in preparedness planning. As disasters become more frequent and severe, communities need animal-inclusive emergency operations plans, evacuation strategies, resources, and coordination efforts that recognize the interconnected needs of people and their animals.

Today, I bring together my background in animal welfare and my Master of Science in Homeland Security with a concentration in Emergency Management to help communities, organizations, and animal welfare agencies strengthen disaster readiness and resilience. I believe that when it comes to our animals, we are often their first responders. Through planning, preparedness, and education, we can empower ourselves to protect the animals we love while building stronger, more resilient communities for us all.
